Welcome to Mandalay Technological University
The Union of Myanmar understood that the progress of this nation depended crucially on research in science and engineering. It was convinced of the need for national level institute devoted to all branches of learning and their applications for the benefit of the nation. As a consequence, on 2nd February 1991, No.2 Industrial Training Centre, which was under Ministry of Industry (1), was transferred to Ministry of Education (MOE). Hereafter Mandalay Institute of Technology (MIT) was founded. MIT was officially inaugurated on 1st October, 1991.
Mandalay Institute of Technology initially pursued undergraduate courses in the fields of science and engineering which comprised six engineering departments; Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Power Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Architecture.

Later, to offer a wider variety of degrees, MTU introduced post graduate programme for talent and highly motivated graduates. Courses have continued to expand in several emerging areas such as Mechatronic, Information Technology, Aerospace, Metallurgy, Textile, Petroleum, Mining and Biotechnology.
The institute is concerned with research in frontier areas of technology. On account of this it is able to introduce new system of imparting knowledge such as offering new courses and integrated degree programme. At the same time, new research centers were established in order to equip the students with hand-on experience.
Today, MTU is solely taking a leading role as a postgraduate research centre in science and technology.
Our Goal and Missions:
- To produce highly qualified and skilled engineers and scientists essential in the building of a modern developed nation.
- To provide opportunities for post graduate studies and research in science and engineering.
- To implement the quality improvement programme of academic staff from all the Technological Universities under the Ministry of Science and Technology for all kinds of engineering and engineering sciences.
- To launch several important programme relevant to national needs and efforts with significant investment using engineering and scientific tools for generation of products, processes and technologies to enhance the productivity of our country.
